Music in Motion

WEDNESDAYS AT 10AM THROUGHOUT JULY!

Children ages 2-6 and their caregivers are invited to join us for 30 minutes of dancing and interacting with peers.  Activities include riding ponies, playing musical instruments, & parachute fun.

Older siblings always welcome!

Construction Zone: Drop-in Building Craft

Drop in for a project that’s built for all ages!  Previous tool experience not required, but children will require adult supervision. Kits and tools provided, but feel free to bring your own tools if you have them.

Building a Better World with New London County 4H (Registration by 10am on day of program)

We are so excited to be working with New London County 4H again this summer!  They have a program designed just for JCC Library that we can’t wait for you to experience.  There’s a new book-inspired activity each week.  You must register on the day of the program by 10am.  Suitable for ages 6+, although adult supervision requested for younger children.

Build a better roller coaster using foam insulation, tape, paper towel rolls, and your imagination.

Activity: Wind Turbines

Design the blades for a wind turbine. Using a voltmeter, find out who can make the most electricity.

Trash islands in our oceans are a big problem. Build a submarine that can help with the clean up!

There are many different ways to get help to people in need. You will build a rocket that can bring medicine to people living on an island.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 26th at 9:30am – If you like reading non-fiction, then this is the book club for you.  This month’s selection is Close to Shore by Michael Capuzzo.  It’s the real story that inspired the making of the movie Jaws.  Join us for a morning bite (no pun intended!) and a book. Books available at the library for check out.

Sing Laugh & Learn with Mr. Joe

WEDNESDAY, JULY 26th at 10:30am – Mr. Joe is back for his encore performance!  If you missed him on his last visit, be sure to mark your calendars for this educational, entertaining, & interactive program for 2 to 6 year olds.  A must see!

Pioneer Adventures

Become a pioneer this summer and explore Franklin and America’s western expansion through the eyes of local history and lore!  Build toys, create lanterns, learn to knit or crochet, play traditional pioneer games (& some modern twists on the old games!), and follow clues as they lead you through a period-themed scavenger hunt to local landmarks and businesses.

Attend any 6 of the following programs throughout the summer & receive a special prize at our Summer Reading Finale! Be sure to note the location of each program.   All materials are FREE and open to residents & non-residents (recommended for children 6+).  Registration not required, unless otherwise noted.

June 22nd at 6pm (at JCCL): Pioneer Bookclub (craft & snack)

July 5th from 1pm-3pm (at JCCL): 4th of July Celebration (traditional games, make lemonade, learn to knit or crochet)

July 12th at 1pm (at JCCL): Oregon Trail Game (& craft)

July 27th at 10am (at Blue Slope Museum): Oxcart Man (read, explore, program on bartering, & craft)

August 2 at 1pm (at JCCL): Tin Lanterns (registration required for this event so supplies can be gathered & prepared)

August 5 at 10am (at Kahn Road Schoolhouse): Birch Broom demonstration (take a tour, meet local artisan Grant Bombria’s, stories, & bring a picnic lunch)

August 10th at 1pm (at JCCL Library): Healing Plants presentation

August 15th at 10am (at Franklin Congregational Church): Pioneer Gatherings (tour, history, & role of the church in the 1800s)

 

Local Children’s Author Meet n’ Greet (Cancelled)

TUESDAY, AUGUST 1st at 10:00am – Join local author, Sharen S. Peter,  for an interactive program based on her book, “I’m Just a Little Someone.”
